Little Learners Nursery

Little Learners is held in the small hall at Blakeley Heath Primary School. It has a maximum intake of 26 children aged between 3 and 5 years and offers five morning and four afternoon sessions each week. The nursery operates on a self financing basis.

Little Learners is registered with Staffordshire Education Authority as an Early Years Provider and receives regular inspections from the OFSTED Early Years Directorate.

It is our intention that Little Learners will offer your child a curriculum which promotes the ‘Early Learning Goals’, (Education Targets laid down by the Government.)

We also endeavour to provide a happy introduction into school life at Blakeley Heath. During the sessions, children have the opportunity of meeting the school staff and becoming more familiar with the classrooms and school facilities.

Our aim is for children to develop in a happy, caring and stimulating environment.

Authority Nursery Grant

Children normally qualify for the Authority Nursery Grant in the first term after their 3rd birthday which pays for the fees of up to five sessions per week. If children attend nursery as soon as they are three years old but are not quite eligible for the grant, sessions cost £5.00 each.

Activities

Each term our activities are structured upon a theme around which various topics and events are organised.

Children are encouraged to develop their skills, communication and listening skills, independence, curiosity and their creative and musical talents. They participate in gross and fine motor experiences and many practical mathematics and literacy activities and games.

Each week the children have opportunities for social interaction in a timetable which includes purposeful play, stories, rhymes, simple cookery and basic computer skills.

An introduction into the recognition of letters and their sounds is made through phonic methods.

The nursery values its links within the local community and enjoys visits from a range of visiting speakers.

Little Learners has a library from which the children are able to borrow a different book each week to share and enjoy at home. The group enjoys close links with parents and aims to involve parents in their child’s learning.

Extra Curricular Activities

As a learning community we are committed to providing all our children with as many varied and exciting, quality learning opportunities as possible.  This extends to our extensive range of after school activities, educational day visits and residential outdoor education visits.

We strongly believe that residential visits enrich our curriculum and provide our children with the opportunity to develop independence as well as working together in a team.  Our children have the opportunity to visit an outdoor education centre in Year 6.
